Carmel Convent, Ahmednagar

Carmel Convent was established on 2nd June 1992 in collaboration with Vincentian Fathers as a part of the diocese of Kalyan. After a thorough study it is realized as a felt need to start an English medium school in this area. In 1992 itself a Nursery school was started by the Sisters with a view to impart sound, moral, intellectual, physical and cultural education and thereby enabling them to blossom into worthy and proud citizens of our country. Sisters started their ministry in a rented room catering the needs of the people around and opening a small English medium school at Bhushan nagar.

The seed sown of the CMC House in Ahmednagar sprouted and grew under the providential care of God. God has blessed us to construct a building for the school. Since, Sisters couldn’t construct a Convent they occupied a small area of the school building as their residence for long 12 years. Sisters were happy with the simple living out of all the inconvenience caused. Now, the school has developed from Nursery to STD– X. Sisters find happiness and self– realization while educating the students as they are from backward neighbouring villages. We give special attention in the faith formation of our students especially to Christian students by celebrating first Friday holy mass, group prayers, rosaries, observance of silence day and prayer days, introducing Bible theme for the year etc.

Along with the apostolate of education we too have adopted a neighbouring village in which we conduct free tuition centre. We conduct regular house visits especially village visits and actively take part in the pastoral activities of our parish like Catechism, Matruvedi, Youth wing and unit prayers.

In order to accommodate the growing numbers of students, Sisters were compelled to move out of School building. The foundation stone for the new Carmel Convent building was laid by Mother Grace Therese on 13th March, 2012. It was a remarkable day in the annals of Avila Mission, the inaugural ceremony of newly constructed Carmel Convent was officially blessed on 8th November 2012 by His Excellency Mar. Thomas Elavanal in the presence of Mother Provincial and team. Provincial synaxis Dec. 2013 raised Carmel Convent to the status of Avila Mission House.

As a result of our frequent village visits we realized the fact that girls were deprived of education, so in 2014 a free boarding for village Christian girls was inaugurated and blessed. As invoked by Pope Francis, “to go to periphery”, in 2014 the monthly recollection made us to reach out to the Trans-gender communities by visiting their homes, conducting prayer-session, etc by becoming one with them. We have no words to thank God the Almighty for His providential care for each one of us. We are gratefully indebted to all those who helped us in various ways.

Inauguration of Silver Jubilee Year celebration of Carmel Convent was on 17th July, 2016 and that of Carmel Convent School was on 30thSept, 2016.

The magnificent Silver Jubilee celebration of Carmel Convent was on 8th July, 2017 and that of Carmel Convent School was on 23th Sept, 2017.

On the glorious Silver Year occasion, we exalt God almighty in humble adorations for the wonderful silver years and achievements he has granted us.
