Euphrasia Bhavan- Greater Noida, UP

Euphrasia Bhavan at Greater Noida, is the seventh house of Avila Mission, Ahmednagar of Vimala Province, Ernakulam and a wonderful miracle by God Almighty. This miracle came true on 6th July 2016 with the blessing of this house by the Arch Bishop of Faridabad-Delhi Diocese, His Grace Mar Kuriakose Bharanikulangara together with the gracious presence of our Major Superiors - Provincial Superior Rev. Mother Subha Maria, Vicar Provincial Sr. Lia, Provincial councilor for Social Work and Mission Sr. Pavithra, Mission Superior of Avila Mission Sr. Nirmal Mary and her team.

Just as at the beginning of CMC, St. Chavara, our founder father took the initiative, Rev. Fr. Varghese Ithithara of Faridabad Diocese was the driving force behind this new venture. Realizing the spiritual needs of the Syro- Malabar Christians of this area, Fr. Varghese, the Spiritual father of these people felt a need to have a parish over here and with Bishop’s consent he proceeded. Soon he felt the need for sisters and he intimated this desire to Bishop Mar. Kuriakose Bharanikulangara.

Rev. Bishop expressed this wish to Mother Provincial of CMC Vimala Province, Ernakulam and three sisters were sent for this cause. Sr. Teji, Sr. Della and Sr. Shalet reached Greater Noida on 11th March 2016 and started living in a rented house. Together with Fr. Varghese they started the pastoral ministry. After 2 months the sisters reached back to the province and gave the feed-back. The Provincial Council was well convinced of the growing needs of these migrant Christians. With the approval of General Council and Provincial council the 7th house of Avila Mission was established.

On July 6th the official blessing of the convent was done and on the same day together with solemn high mass the inauguration of catechism classes in the parish too. Sr. Raisy was appointed as the Sister- in- charge of the new residence, Euphrasia Bhavan, Greater Noida and Sr. Rinny and Sr. Della as community members. In order to make this community self sufficient, Sr. Rinny and Sr. Della started teaching in Jesus and Mary school run by Agra Diocese. And thus on 6th July 2016, the history of 7th house of Avila Mission and 40th house of Vimala Province took a new turn.

Since, it was a one year contract with the infant Jesus school, Provincial council decided to give more focus on Pastoral care. So the sisters discontinued the service in the School. Now, as the new members Sr. Limna Jose and Sr. Jesma Therese joined in the community, they are planning for the initiation of a Counselling centre under the leadership of Sr. Limna, who had completed Clinical Psychology. Therefore, with this new venture the need of the people can be addressed effectively with the imparting of Gospel values through counselling. Indeed, the verse below is absolutely true when we consider the history of Euphrasia Bhavan, Greater Noida.

Habakuk1: 5 “Look at the Nations and see! Be astonished! Be Astounded! For a work is being done in your days that you would not believe if you were told.”
